Bashy: Being Poor Is Expensive

Turning class, West London identity into raw live performance.

Project Info:

Bashy’s Being Poor Is Expensive live campaign needed to carry the emotional weight of the album: class, aspiration, pressure, anger, humour, memory and West London identity.

Black Skull developed a visual and live-performance language that could travel across multiple stages without losing its force. The campaign moved through intimate theatre, awards-show performance and festival environments, each demanding a different scale while holding the same creative attitude.

The visual world drew from the album’s narrative: urgent, vivid and impossible to ignore. Burning ladders, confrontational typography and archival textures became part of a live language about ambition, identity, mobility and resistance.

Our role was to make the album’s tension physical on stage through image, movement, pacing and atmosphere, without turning protest into polish.

The result was a live campaign that felt raw, authored and emotionally exact.
