Lil Uzi Vert

Lil Uzi Vert

Afropunk energy rewired through speed, distortion and transcendence.

Project Info:

For Lil Uzi Vert's 2024 festival performances, Black Skull developed a live visual and stage language built around speed, distortion and genre refusal.

The show needed to reflect an artist who does not sit neatly inside one category. Across Coachella and Summerfest, the creative direction leaned into their multi dimensional versatility: maximal, disorientating and was deliberately hard to pin down.

At Coachella, the concept expanded into a complete visual world with its own narrative arc: a journey through darkness toward light, breaking through walls of negativity and hatred to rediscover peace, love and clarity.

This story unfolded across several chapters: from Wall of Hate through Connection, Joyful Dancing and Hallucinogenic Discovery of the Light, arriving finally at the Wall of Light. Each chapter was anchored to key moments in the set, with visual narratives timed to tracks carrying the emotional weight of each stage.

Real-time Notch looks and overlays reinforced the world, responding to the music’s energy while holding the deeper theme in place. The result was a deliberate tension between chaos and calm, aggression and transcendence leaving the audiences with a euphoric, high-intensity show with an undercurrent of resolution.

Uzi's Coachella set visually journeys from a graffiti "Wall of Hate" through hallucinogenic, neon-saturated sequences of searching, connection, and joyful dancing, ending in a blinding "Wall of Light." The aesthetic blends street-art grit, thermal/VHS distortion textures, and acid-bright pink-orange-teal colour washes into a psychedelic arc from darkness to euphoria.

Studio

For Uzi's Summerfest set, Studio created a suite of cinematic key visuals built around a central portal ring - the show's signature set piece - guiding the audience through a continuous journey between worlds. The visuals open with an activation sequence signalling the start of the show, then transport viewers through surreal, sculptural landscapes including a colossal faceted head rising from a mountain lake, abstract portal loops that blend seamlessly with the lighting rig, and a final fourth-dimensional passage inspired by Interstellar. Existing tour visuals were also reworked to match the new circular, forward-motion narrative, resulting in a cohesive, otherworldly visual identity for the show.
